He began producing films like “The Boys in the Band” and “The Panic in Needle Park” in the 1960s and shifted to writing in the 1970s.
Later, after his daughter Dominique’s tragic demise in 1982, Dunne began writing about the justice system and its intersection with high society.

Born in Santa Monica, California, she debuted in the film Diary of a Teenage Hitchhiker and had other recurring roles.
Unfortunately, Dominique’s life ended violently at age 22 because of her ex-boyfriend, John Thomas Sweeney, during an argument.
After falling into a coma, she took her last breath on November 4, 1982, and her execution sparked significant media attention.
Sweeney was apprehended at the scene, admitting to her demise. Initially charged with attempted execution, he later faced voluntary manslaughter charges after her passing.
Dominique’s tragic story deeply affected her family, particularly her father, who later pursued a career in journalism.

At the request of former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Tina Brown, Dominick even kept a diary during the trial, which he later developed into a detailed article for the magazine.
He expressed his grief over his daughter’s demise in his book “Justice: A Father’s Account of the Trial of His Daughter’s Killer.”
Moreover, he reflected:
“It captures the devastating experience of a family unfamiliar with the judicial system. It’s a guide for what families should prepare for.”
