Corey Lamar previously owned a barber shop in Atlanta, which was a go-to spot for younger men and women to style their hair.
Later, Corey served as Quan’s manager after his success in the music industry.
Furthermore, Mrs. Lamar raised him and his siblings alone in a financially challenging environment.
Despite this, his mother bought him a microphone as a graduation gift and helped him set up his own studio.
Hence, she demonstrated her backing despite not knowing much about the music industry.
In an interview, he mentioned that his father was absent while growing up. Hence, he did not ask for help from his dad, which drove him to become more independent.
The late rapper stated,
My mom was a single mother—I was eight or nine, and realized my dad got money and my mama don’t, but I got to the age where I didn’t want to depend on my dad. I want to be around my daddy, but I don’t want to ask my daddy. So, that’s when you just start looking to the streets for that shoulder to lean on. And that’s what it was: just trying to just make the best out of the worst situation.
This depicts his determination and positive outlook to strive for the best, even during the thick days.
Additionally, Quan repeatedly pointed out that his big brother was his booking manager. However, it is unclear whether the “Big Brother” referenced is his biological sibling.
Lastly, we would like to offer our deepest condolence to his family during this grieving period and pray for them to overcome this challenging moment.
