Frontman John Lepe aka Juan Brujo, Succumbed to Heart Attack Amid Brujeria’s Mexorcista Tour

The Mexican death grind band Brujeria canceled the remaining dates on their Mexorcita Tour 2024, citing a “severe medical emergency” earlier this week. Turns out Juan Brujo took his last breath, suffering a heart attack at 61.

He suffered a heart attack following a day off from the band’s tour in Saint Clairsville, Ohio. The band canceled the forthcoming tour dates following the tragic event.

Brujeria released a lengthy eulogy breaking the tragic news to their followers via a Facebook post on September 18, 2024. The post starts with,

It is with deep sadness we have to announce that our leader Juan Brujo has passed away today. Juan suffered a heart attack on early Monday morning, after a day off from the current Mexorcista tour in Saint Clairsville, Ohio.

The tragic news comes just months after Juan’s cousin, the group’s vocalist and sampler, Ciriaco “Pinche Peach” Quezada, passed away at 57 in July 2024.

Meanwhile, his family is devastated by the prospect of experiencing another loss from the exact cause.

Juan Brujo was the frontman and founding member of the band named Brujeria. He formed the band in Los Angeles in 1989 alongside members Dino Cazares, Billy Gould, Shane Embury, Raymond Herrera, and Jello Biafra.

Regardless, they remain resilient despite adversity and have plans for the future.

With his metal band, Juan was widely known for their unique persona of appearing donning bandanas, serapes, and balaclavas.
